Prof. Dr. Klaus F. Zimmermann



Research Interests:

Born in 1952. Full Professor of Economics at Bonn University and Director of IZA, Institute for the Study of Labor, Bonn and (from 1. Jan. 2000) President of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), Berlin. From 1989-1998 he was Full Professor at the University of Munich, and Director of SELAPO (Research Report SELAPO, 1989-1997), the Research Center of Human Resources in Munich. He is Co-Director of the "Labour Economics" Programme of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), London, a worldwide Research Network with over 500 Fellows. He studied economics and statistics at the University of Mannheim, where he received his degree as Diplom-Volkswirt, his doctor degree and his habilitation.

President 1994 of the European Society for Population Economics. Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Population Economics and Managing Editor of Economic Policy. Associate Editor of the following journals: Recherches Economiques de Louvain, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Labour Economics, European Economic Review, and International Journal of Manpower. Member of the Kuratorium of the Ifo-Institut, Munich. Member of the Council of the European Economic Association, the European Society for Population Economics and of the German Economic Association. Chairman of the Council of the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) of the German Economic Institute (DIW) in Berlin.

Research interests: population economics, labor, migration, industrial organization, econometrics. Publications: Author or editor of 12 books, and over 140 papers in collected volumes and national and international journals including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Public Choice, Sociological Methods and Research, Empirical Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Applied Economics, Kyklos, Journal of Mathematical Sociology, Economics Letters, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Economic Surveys, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Open Economies Review, Politica Internationale, Quality & Quantity, Recherches Economiques de Louvain, among others.
